Governing Melbourne / Annual Community Survey Program

Since 2010 Metropolis Research has conducted Governing Melbourne, our annual metropolitan Melbourne wide survey of approximately one thousand respondents drawn in equal numbers from each of the thirty-one councils.

Governing Melbourne is editorially independent and provides an objective examination of community satisfaction with and expectations of local government across Metropolitan Melbourne.

Governing Melbourne measures community satisfaction with the overall performance of council as well as:

  • Satisfaction with thirty-one council services and facilities
  • Satisfaction with the governance and leadership of council
  • Satisfaction with customer service
  • Identifying issues of importance in local communities
  • Exploring a range of topics of ongoing concern to local government including traffic and parking, safety in public areas, housing related financial stress and the local sense of community

Metropolis Research developed Governing Melbourne to provide comparative results for our growing group of Annual Community Survey program client councils.  This includes metropolitan Melbourne comparisons as well as comparative results for groups of similar councils (such as growth area councils and middle-ring councils).

The following councils currently participate in our Annual Community Survey program:
